How the town is built
Siler City's property mix is working and industrial in a way that reads unlike Pittsboro or anywhere else on our Chatham County book — the town grew around a poultry-processing economy and a brick-storefront downtown, not a courthouse-and-artisan one. The historic residential around downtown Chatham Avenue carries older homes on narrow-to-standard lots, mostly early-to-mid-twentieth century. Mountaire Farms and the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site carry the industrial footprint, with the CAM Site in active construction build-out as the mega-projects move forward. Newer residential has filled in on the US-421 south and US-64 west approaches. The rural west edge toward Alamance and Randolph County lines carries working farmland and large-lot rural residential. On the commercial side, Chatham Avenue downtown handles small-shop tenant work, the US-421 strip carries roadside retail, and the airport-side light-industrial fills in the small-warehouse volume.
