Running Winston-Salem

How the job
works here.

Residential renovations, commercial builds, and municipal events all pull from the same yards. What changes in Winston-Salem is how quickly the truck reaches you, how we place it on local ground, and who signs what before it drops.

Step 01 · Delivery

How fast we can be there

Our Mebane yard runs Winston-Salem daily — about 70 minutes from our lot to any driveway in town. Same cutoff for renovation drops and construction schedules.

  • Order by 4 PM, we’re at your address the next day
  • Two yards on standby (Mebane + Smithfield) if one is slammed
  • Busy building season doesn’t push the schedule
  • Weekend delivery available on request

Step 02 · Placement

Making it fit your driveway

Old Winston-Salem driveways run narrow; newer subdivisions have room to spare. We size the equipment to your address before we drop.

  • Narrow older-neighborhood driveways: we size to 16 or 20 yards
  • Newer US-52 subdivisions: any size we offer will fit
  • Tree canopy or low wires: we confirm clearance first
  • Commercial sites with a loading dock: we deliver right to it

Step 03 · Paperwork

We handle the permits

Forsyth County disposal paperwork rides on our credentials, not yours. If the town or your HOA needs anything, we tell you before you sign.

  • Forsyth County disposal permits: on us
  • In your driveway: no town permit at all
  • Street or event drops: we tell you what’s needed
  • HOA time limits on US-52: checked before signing

Areas within Winston-Salem

Neighborhoods
on the route.

The truck routes are the same across Winston-Salem, but placement is a block-by-block conversation. Each neighborhood below carries the note that changes how we deliver into it.

Downtown Winston-Salem / Fourth StreetCity-center commercial + historic business district
The downtown blocks around Fourth Street and Trade Street — Reynolds-era commercial architecture, tenant retail, independent restaurants, Truist Stadium (home of the Winston-Salem Dash), and the arts district. Street drops here route through the City of Winston-Salem; we handle the submission.
Old SalemMoravian historic district (1766 founding)
Old Salem is a nationally significant living history district on the south side of downtown — pre-Revolutionary and Federal-era Moravian buildings on their original 1766 street grid. The preservation review here is one of the strictest we work with; container placements inside the district route through the Moravian preservation process on top of the city permit, with lead time built in.
Innovation QuarterRedeveloped Reynolds factories — biotech + research
The Innovation Quarter blocks east of downtown — former Reynolds factory sites redeveloped into biotech and research space, with Wake Forest School of Medicine anchor buildings. Construction and tenant turnover volume runs 30-yard dumpsters and 40-yard compactors, usually with on-site property-management coordination.
West End + Washington ParkHistoric residential districts
The West End Historic District (west of downtown) and the Washington Park Historic District (south of downtown) — 1890s-through-1930s residential on narrow lots with mature trees overhead. 16- and 20-yard dumpsters do most of the historic work; district-specific preservation review runs on street-visible drops.
Reynolda / Wake Forest University areaUniversity campus + estate-era residential
The Reynolda Road area including Wake Forest University, Reynolda House, and the surrounding early-twentieth-century estate residential. Campus work runs through university facilities; estate-era residential blocks carry larger lots and standard driveway widths.
Hanes Mall / Stratford RoadRegional retail + commercial
The Hanes Mall footprint and the surrounding Stratford Road commercial area. Regional retail tenant turnover and shopping-center renovation volume with loading-dock placement standard on 30-yard dumpsters and 40-yard compactors.
I-40 industrial + distribution stripInterstate commercial + warehouse
The warehouse, distribution, and light-industrial strip along I-40 on the south side of the city. 30-yard dumpsters, 40-yard compactors, and walking-floor trailers on expansion phases, with loading-dock placement standard.

Plus every subdivision, farm parcel, and residential street off I-40 and US-52 that isn’t named here.

Questions from Winston-Salem

The ones we get
every week here.

What's the Old Salem preservation review process?

Old Salem is a nationally significant Moravian historic district on the original 1766 street grid — one of the strictest preservation regimes we work with anywhere in NC. Container placements that will be visible from the street inside the district get a Moravian preservation review on top of the City of Winston-Salem permit. The review runs on a longer timeline than most municipal reviews, so we build lead time into dispatch scheduling. Private driveway placements set well back from the street don't trigger the review.

Can you handle Innovation Quarter research-building and biotech work?

Yes — Innovation Quarter is a steady year-round commercial route for us. The Reynolds-era factory conversion into biotech and research space has generated ongoing renovation and tenant build-out volume for the past decade-plus. 30-yard dumpsters, 40-yard compactors, walking-floor trailers during gut-renovation stages, and construction-crew portable restrooms are all standard here. On-site property management coordinates placement.

Do you serve Wake Forest Baptist Health or Novant Health campus work?

Yes — both hospital systems are regular campus routes. Phased renovation and expansion work with hospital-side coordination on access-route placement so patient routing stays clear. Compactor-ready placements are standard; walking-floor trailers come in on bigger haul windows. The hospitals usually coordinate through their own facilities offices rather than requiring a separate city permit for on-campus placement.

Can you handle Carolina Classic Fair event setup?

Yes. Carolina Classic Fair (formerly the Dixie Classic Fair) is the biggest annual event we handle in Winston-Salem — major fairgrounds-scale portable restrooms, dedicated handwashing stations throughout the vendor rows (Forsyth County rules apply), event-perimeter fencing for crowd control, and dumpsters for cleanup. We coordinate drop-off with the fairgrounds and the city on the pre-event setup schedule.

What about the West End or Washington Park historic districts?

West End and Washington Park each carry their own district-specific preservation review on top of the city permit — separate from Old Salem's Moravian review. Container placements that will be visible from the street inside either district get the applicable review handled as part of standard scheduling. Private driveway placements set back from the street usually don't trigger the review.

My project is near I-40, US-52, US-421, or US-158 — do I need a state DOT permit?

If the container lands on state-highway land, yes. I-40, US-52, US-421, and US-158 are all state DOT roads through Winston-Salem. The state DOT handles those permits rather than the City of Winston-Salem — we note which permit applies on your estimate and submit it. Driveway placements and city-maintained streets don't need the state permit.

How quickly can you have a dumpster in Winston-Salem?

Our Mebane yard sits about seventy minutes east of Winston-Salem on I-40 — farther west than our usual Mebane dispatch book. For an order placed by the end of the business day, the truck leaves Mebane the next morning. For hospital-campus, Innovation Quarter, or Old Salem work with review timelines involved, we build those lead times into dispatch.

Do you cover the towns near Winston-Salem?

Yes. Kernersville (east), Clemmons (south), Lewisville, Rural Hall, Walkertown, Pfafftown, and most of Forsyth County all ship from the Mebane yard on next-day scheduling. The Mebane dispatch covers nearly all of the Winston-Salem metro side from the east.
