How the town is built
Jamestown is almost entirely residential, split between the historic small-town core and the newer subdivisions that have grown in on the edges. The historic core along Main Street and the surrounding blocks — including the Mendenhall Homeplace area and the Oakdale Mill vicinity — carries 1800s-and-early-1900s homes on narrow Quaker-era lots where 16- and 20-yard dumpsters fit. The newer subdivisions off Guilford College Road and the US-29 approaches are post-2000 builds with wide driveways and active HOAs. On the commercial side, Jamestown's volume is light: Guilford Technical Community College's main campus runs facility work on an academic calendar, the US-29/US-70 small-shop strip handles the retail side, and Castle McCulloch anchors the event-space side.
