How the town is built
Pittsboro's property mix runs between two extremes nothing else on our book shares — the small-town historic character of the courthouse-circle downtown and the surrounding historic residential, and the master-planned-at-unprecedented-scale Chatham Park development on the east side. There is almost no middle. The historic blocks around Hillsboro Street and Salisbury Street carry late-1800s-through-1930s homes on narrow lots. Chatham Park's Mosaic village and the surrounding build-out run modern walkable density on standard-to-wide lots with a master-plan HOA framework. The rural edge west toward Siler City carries working farmland and large-lot residential. On the commercial side, downtown Pittsboro around the courthouse circle handles the small-shop and artisan work, Chatham Park's commercial build-out runs the newer tenant volume, and the US-15/501 strip north toward Chapel Hill carries the mid-sized retail.
