How the town is built
Greensboro splits broadly into three kinds of residential territory. The designated historic districts — Fisher Park, Westerwood, Dunleath, College Hill — carry 1890s-through-1920s homes on narrow lots where 16- and 20-yard dumpsters fit, and renovations go through the Greensboro Historic Preservation Commission on top of the standard building permit. The mid-century neighborhoods around Irving Park, Latham Park, and the Friendly Center area carry 1940s-60s homes with mature trees and standard driveways. The outer-ring subdivisions — Lake Jeanette, the US-220 approaches, the far-east and far-west growth belts — are post-2000 builds with wide driveways and active HOAs. On the commercial side, downtown's office towers run multi-tenant floor turnovers; the Friendly Center and Four Seasons retail areas run ongoing tenant work; and the PTI Airport commercial zone around Honda Aircraft and Volvo Trucks handles the manufacturing-adjacent construction cycle.
