Walking Floor Trailers
in Durham, NC.

Walking floor volume in Durham runs at some of the highest sustained levels on our book. Research Triangle Park research-building construction generates steady 120-cubic-yard loads from ongoing expansion phases across the park. Duke University Hospital campus work pulls the trailer during gut-renovation stages. American Tobacco District continued redevelopment and other downtown adaptive-reuse projects bring it in on bigger haul windows. Historic district teardowns are rare — district preservation reviews limit them across the full set of overlays.

The ground in Durham

What placement
actually costs here.

Residential renovations, commercial builds, and municipal events all pull from the same yards.Durham is one of the top-five cities in NC by population, the Durham County seat, and the medical-and-research anchor of the Triangle metro. Duke University and Duke University Hospital carry the campus-and-medical footprint on the west side of downtown — one of the deepest institutional complexes in the state. The American Tobacco Historic District on the south side of downtown — former Lucky Strike factories redeveloped into mixed-use beginning in 2003 — anchors the downtown revitalization that has reshaped the whole city over the past twenty years. Research Triangle Park, shared with Wake and Chatham Counties, carries the biotech-and-tech footprint on the south edge. The historic Hayti district and the NC Mutual Life Insurance footprint remain foundational to the city's heritage as the center of Black entrepreneurship in NC; Hayti was known as the Black Wall Street. The Ninth Street area and the broader Old West Durham blocks preserve the Erwin Mills textile-mill era. Our Mebane yard is about thirty-five minutes east on I-85 and I-40 — one of our more direct Mebane routes.

Property mix

How the town is built

Durham's property mix is defined by Duke more than by any other single institution — the campus, the hospital, and the campus-adjacent historic residential in Trinity Park and Trinity Heights carry a density you don't see anywhere else on our book. The American Tobacco Historic District on the south side of downtown — former Lucky Strike factories redeveloped into mixed-use since 2003 — adds another distinct scale. Historic residential in Trinity Park, Forest Hills, Watts Hospital-Hillandale, Lakewood Park, and Old West Durham carries 1890s-through-1930s homes under district-specific preservation review. The Ninth Street area and the Erwin Mills blocks preserve textile-mill-era residential and small-shop commercial. The Hayti Historic District and the NC Mutual Life Insurance footprint hold the Black Wall Street heritage. Research Triangle Park on the south edge carries research-and-biotech institutional density across the Durham / Wake / Chatham County line. Perimeter suburban residential and I-40 / I-85 commercial fill in the remaining footprint.

Access

How we get there

Durham runs from Mebane (~35 min) or Smithfield (~70 min)depending on that day's dispatch load. From either yard the way in is I-40 and I-85, then the residential streets through each neighborhood.

Permitting

Who signs what

Durham's permit flow carries two threads most towns on our book don't share. The City of Durham planning office handles municipal permits across the whole city, with district-specific preservation review feeding into municipal review for the historic districts that overlay the city map — Trinity Park, Trinity Heights, Old West Durham, Hayti, Lakewood Park, Watts Hospital-Hillandale, Forest Hills, Downtown Durham, American Tobacco, and others. Separately, projects inside Research Triangle Park — which straddles Durham, Wake, and small Chatham County footprints — route through the Research Triangle Foundation of NC on top of the county-level permits, with the parcel determining which county overlap applies. Duke University and Duke University Hospital campus work usually coordinates through their own facilities offices rather than through city municipal review. Driveway placements don't need a city permit. I-40, I-85, NC-147, US-15/501, and US-70 are state highways, so adjacent placements add a state DOT permit, which we submit. Durham County rules on disposal apply on the back end — our hauling licenses cover that side.
