The biopharmaceutical side is anchored by Novo Nordisk's main US manufacturing operations — one of the largest insulin manufacturing footprints in the country — and by Grifols' biologics facility, both located on the north side of town. The residential side is driven by Raleigh-metro spillover east along US-70 and I-540, with master-planned communities like Flowers Plantation absorbing much of the housing demand. These two forces run on different calendars and keep our Clayton work pipeline mixed through the year.

How the town is built

Clayton's property mix is dominated by the master-planned community model more than any other Johnston County town we serve. Flowers Plantation — spanning thousands of acres on the west side of town — is one of the largest master-planned communities in central NC and carries much of the residential volume. Portofino and the other newer master-planned sections off NC-42 add to the picture. The historic blocks around downtown Clayton Main Street carry older 1900s-1930s homes on narrow lots where 16- and 20-yard dumpsters fit. On the commercial side, Novo Nordisk's manufacturing campus and Grifols' biologics operation anchor the biotech side on the north edge of town, and the US-70 commercial strip handles the retail and small-shop volume.

How we get there

Clayton runs from Smithfield (~20 min) or Mebane (~100 min)depending on that day's dispatch load. From either yard the way in is US-70 and I-540, then the residential streets through each neighborhood.

Who signs what

Clayton's permit flow is bigger than you'd expect for a town its size — the master-planned communities on the west side (Flowers Plantation, Portofino, and the newer sections off NC-42) each operate their own HOA framework alongside the Town of Clayton planning office. For driveway placements, no town permit is required; HOA covenants are what matter instead. For street drops, the Town of Clayton issues the permit, which we pull on your behalf. The Novo Nordisk and Grifols biotech campuses on the north side operate on their own facility-security calendars — we coordinate access with each facility separately. US-70, I-540, and NC-42 are state highways, so adjacent-to-highway placements add an NCDOT permit, which we handle too. Johnston County rules on disposal apply on the back end — our hauler credentials cover that.
