How the town is built
Carrboro's property mix skews small and dense in a way nothing else on our Orange County book does. The 1920s-through-1950s bungalow and craftsman stock sits close to downtown on narrow lots — some of the better-preserved pre-war residential in the Triangle. The mid-century bungalow infill behind that fills in on standard driveways. The newer mixed-use developments on the west and north sides have been designed around walkability rather than wide driveways and large master-planned HOAs. On the commercial side, downtown Carrboro's Carr Mill Mall and Weaver Street Market anchor one end, West Main Street streetscape runs the independent-retail work, and the NC-54 west mixed-use handles office and small-tenant volume. No single sector dominates; the town's character sits in the density itself.
