How the town is built
Burlington's residential profile splits across three distinct eras. The historic districts around West Davis Street and the Burlington Industries mill-era blocks carry 1900s-1920s homes on narrow lots where 16- and 20-yard dumpsters fit — these include some of the better-preserved mill-era residential stock in central NC. The mid-century neighborhoods built around the Burlington Industries workforce in the 1940s-60s have mature trees and standard driveways. The newer subdivisions on the north and west edges of the city — along NC-62 and the Alamance Road areas — are post-2000 builds with wide driveways and active HOAs. On the commercial side, LabCorp's main campus anchors the corporate side, the downtown retail and office stock runs through the Main Street redevelopment area, and the I-40/I-85 commercial strip handles the warehouse and distribution volume.
